Type Locality and Naming

Along the gorge of Khodzhakurgan, left tributary of the Dzhindary River, basin of the Kashkadarya River, western part of the Zarafshan-Gissar mountain region. A.I. Kim, N.M. Larin et al., 1972 (470, p.10). Stratotype in the section of the Khodzhakurgan gorge.

Synonym: Khodzhakurgan Suite, Ходжакурганская св. Hodzhakurgan Fm; Khodza Khurgan Fm (as used in Emsian GSSP document)

Lithology and Thickness

Rhythmically alternating variegated, predominantly dark, nodular and polymictic limestones, varying degrees of enrichment with clayey material and siliceous formations. Thickness up to 800 m.

Lower contact

In the gorge of Zinzilban, Khodzhakurgan Fm lies conformably on the Madmon Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain by the Kashkadarya Fm reef complex (Yangaklyk, Raikazak Fm).

Regional extent

Western part of the Zarafshan ridge. Facies and age analog of part of the Khodzhakurgan Fm, to the east in the basin of the Magian River and in the upper reaches of the Khanakasu, is the Magian suite.

Age

In the type section of the suite, it covers the age interval from the kitabicus zone to the kockelianus in the conodont sequence. The lowest stratigraphic level of distribution of the Khodzhakurgan suite is observed in the section of Sangi-Tovar, where its lower age boundary descends to the level of the base of the Burssykhirman Horizon (Bursikhirman Horizon), i.e., the base of the Lochkovian stage. Age - early-middle Devonian (Eifelian), in the stratigraphic column (443) - Emsian, Eifelian, lower Givetian (?).
